Page 5 Inks

One of the great things about this story (and the reason I started it in place of the 1992 story) is that it’s full of action. Shooting, jumping, punching, blah blah blah, there’s a bunch of it. Every few pages, something else is happening to Karter that forces him to physically react to the situation. Considering how little action I’ve been able to draw in Variables (almost none since the first page of 1992), it’s cool to get to draw something so comic-booky.

Speaking of the 1992 arc, I will probably return to drawing it this week and will post one page from it (and, if I’m really rolling, then I will return to 2002 with a new page early next week). I want to continue posting pages on the arc when I can so that by the time I’m ready to return to it full-time, my art style hasn’t changed so completely that the pages are drastically different than what is already posted.

With this page, I’m testing out some tweaks to my inking style. I used much thicker outlines for the bodies while retaining a slight gap between objects, something I’ve been doing for the past 2-3 pages of 2002. I like the effect but since there is so little background material on this page, I’ll have to see it more before I decide whether I keep it or not.

So, that’s it for this morning. I’m finishing up the colors on this page right now so this completed page should be up in the wee hours of tomorrow morning. Keep an eye out for it!
