I’ve been waiting a long time to use some of the coloring and lettering tricks I planned on introducing for issue 2 and this page was my only shot to try a few of them out before I start work on that issue in about a month’s time. This is probably the most action-y of any pages in this issue, with Blake expending some of the energy he had stored from the lightning strikes so I have the perfect vehicle to try coloring my ink lines and adding a few gradients to the page.
After it’s said and done, this is my favorite page of the issue. With this story, I don’t get a lot of opportunities to draw action shots (at least compared to mainstream Marvel & DC comics) and while drawing story pages is fun, they’re not as much fun as a good ol’ “tackle a guy and then get electrocuted by him” page. We have one more page of Blake to close his story and then we move on to the last mini-arc in the first issue of Variables, where we get to meet a new character. This character is going to be one of the staples of the Variables universe and I’ve enjoyed working on the character so I’m looking forward to seeing him get into the fray.
