Page 9 Inks

In today’s page preview, we see White explain more of the situation to Blake’s parents. I’ve been trying to use more interesting angles in these past few pages because visually, there just isn’t a lot happening with the story. Making it interesting to draw people talking around a table can be quite a challenge and given the ~30 or so pages I’ve done of Variables 1992 so far, it’s a challenge I’ve faced a lot. I’ve said it before but the first 80 or so pages where I lay out the groundwork for the Variable universe can get a little dry. It’s something I’ve accepted to make the rest of the comic better but it’s still frustrating when I think about just how long it takes to complete 80 pages at a once-per-week rate.

My buffer is nearly gone so next week, I need to get back to drawing A LOT so I can regain some of that buffer. I’ve been in the process of moving into a new house for the past few weeks and all the prep work of painting, organizing, etc. has cut into my comic time. On top of that, I was feeling a bit of burnout by drawing the Variables characters all the time so I took a bit of a departure to draw in some other styles for awhile. It was refreshing and I think I’m ready to get back to Variables now. After a break, I’m usually much happier with my art and hope that will be the case again this time.

So, there’s the page preview for today. Be sure to check back next week for its fully colored and lettered version to be posted!
