I took a few hours to finish up inks for the first page of the book so I thought I’d post it up here for a preview… It’s basically just a re-working of a page that I did three or four months ago that I felt was below my standards for sequential layout. Artistically, it was acceptable but the layout didn’t convey the images I wanted to portray on the first page. This one is a huge improvement over that piece and I don’t feel bad for spending the time to draw the first page again.
Anyway, I’ve been hashing around an idea for a strip-style comic over the past few days and yesterday, I decided to move forward with the idea. It’s in the standard comic strip format (think Calvin & Hobbes or Peanuts) and features… talking animals. Why? Because I FREAKING HATE TALKING ANIMALS. They’re cutesy in all the wrong ways and usually feature humor on the level of Family Circus… or worse. So, the premise of this strip is a bunch of talking animals set in an animal research facility. The chimpanzees hate everyone, the cats think they’re kings of the domain, the dogs acquiesce to the superiority of humanity and its need for testing, the mice are borderline retarded, no one can tell any of the rabbits apart from one another, and the frogs spend most of their time planning failed resistance movements.
Anyway, it’s in the initial planning stages but as progress is made, I’ll be posting up art samples of characters and environments. I figure it will take at least a month or two to roll out the initial comics and as of now, the plan is to fill the Wednesday blog slot with information about the strip followed by the strip itself. I created a placeholder image for the comic and it will be called “for the good of the people”.
Back to the art preview… here it is!
