When I first started writing the 2002 arc, I decided early on that I needed a lighter character to compensate for Karter’s rather dark personality. Over the course of a few days, that character became the young girl Nora, a girl from an immigrant family in the Exarcheia area. She will appear a few times throughout the 40 or so pages of this arc and plays a key role in the end game of the 2002 story.
I’m much happier with this page than the last, which is a little surprising. It has too many anatomy errors and by the end, I was really burned out and just tried to wrap up penciling and inking it as quickly as possible. This is the first page of Variables that has taken me over 20 hours to complete from beginning to end. It’s not something I’m terribly excited about considering that it means I’m spending almost twice as much time as I did on the early pages of the 1992 arc, but I think the difference in quality is easily seen in the pages themselves.
Next up in 2002 is the introduction of my favorite character (so far) in the series so be sure to check back later in the week for the next page preview (I’m finally getting back on schedule). Tomorrow, the fully colored version of the page you see here will be posted so check it out.
