For the first time in three months, I dusted off my outline for Variables 1992 and took a look at what is going to happen in the second issue. Though it’s still three months off, Rachel and I will have a lot of scripting, editing, and plot revisions to go (fight) through. I have a general idea of what will happen page-to-page, though much of that could change now that I’m over halfway through the first issue. More on the second issue as it comes together. As I’ve said earlier, the first few pages of Variables are establishing pages. With page 13, the story kicks into high gear and carries on through the following ~65 pages. We won’t see Candice & Isabel for awhile but when we do, they’re going to be further along in the case and more about the mysterious intruder will be revealed. But in the meantime, enjoy the Blake story as it picks up on the next page (no spoilers!).

This week, I’m lagging behind my standard schedule because I’ve been dealing with this growing pain in my left elbow (my drawing hand). Initially, I thought it might be Tennis Elbow but my ability to grip objects isn’t really impaired so I think I may be on the wrong track in that regard. Oh, if only I had health insurance, maybe I’d get it checked out… Alas, I’m just going to have to suffer through it and hope it gets better without the aide of modern medicine.

This weekend, I’m going to visit my first con, a small comic convention in the Twin Cities called SpringCon. I’ll be going as only a visitor and hopefully, I’ll get to meet a few of the comickers I’ve chatted with online over the past few months. I don’t plan on hosting any tables at conventions for quite some time, as I feel there isn’t enough content on the site to warrant that kind of expenditure of both money and time. If things go perfectly through the summer and fall, I’ll contemplate buying a table for the Minneapolis Indie Expo in November but I’m skeptical of even doing that this early in the comic’s life. In any case, getting to talk about Variables a bit more and meeting people face-to-face should be a fun experience. It’s definitely something I need to work on before San Diego, where it will be incredibly easy to get lost in the shuffle of what seems to be approximately five billion people who pass through the San Diego Convention Center over that weekend.

Also, I picked up a cheap Android tablet specifically for reading comic books. I’ll have to root it and fiddle around to get it where I want but by this time next week, I should have something more to say about it. Hopefully, it all works out and is the device I want, which is basically a full-color Kindle without the Draconian DRM of a Nook Color.

That’s about it for this week. Be sure to check in on Friday to see the next page preview. Something big happens to little ol’ Blake Monroe…
