Page 5 Inks

This week keeps rolling along with a site update every morning… this morning, it’s a preview of page five. Expect to see the full color version posted on Thursday before I close the week with another preview of the following page that Friday.

I keep forgetting to plug it but this weekend, I’ll be hanging out at DigiCon, a digital comic book convention hosted by Ryan Fisher, creator of Gin & Comics. It’s a great idea and it surprises me that no one thought of it earlier. Over the course of the coming weekend, there will be commissioned artwork, panels, live streaming of artists working, and various chat rooms to talk to creators of various comics or just talk to other readers about your favorite books. It’s free (of course) and more information can be found by clicking through the link earlier in this paragraph. Be sure to check it out.

Back to the comic… While I was really excited to finish the last page, this page is pretty “meh” so I don’t have a lot to say about it. Which is actually a step up from the following pages, where I honestly don’t like them one bit. I seem to be slipping into another mid-issue slump and I need to snap out of it before I have to scrap a page entirely and start over from scratch. Part of it has to do with the visuals and part of it probably has to do with me chomping at the bit to visit a few of the scenes found later in the issue, particularly a return to the Isabel & Candice story arc. One of the hardest parts of comicking is struggling through the less visually interesting pages. They contain necessary information to the story but sometimes, you have to reel things back visually and just let the story hum along.

Not that I’m complaining. Even the most visually boring pages carry a sense of achievement with them, as they move along the comic just like every other page. Another notch in the long belt of Variables…

PS. Tomorrow’s book blog will be pushed back one week to clear space for comic updates, which will happen every day except tomorrow. Really, it makes sense to me. Just run with it.
