Now that I’m recently unemployed, progress on the comic is flying along. I may even release an extra page or two in the coming weeks to make sure that I finish the second issue before the end of the year (on a page-per-week schedule, it’s due to finish in early January). I’m already building up a buffer and once that gets to two or three pages, I will start releasing additional pages ahead of schedule so that I don’t get too far ahead of the posted story.
You’ll be able to see it on Monday but each page has more texturing and gradient work than the last. I’m still working on the new coloring style and learning new tricks with every additional page I color using this method. It takes me slightly longer to color an entire page than it did during issue one (less time for flatting, more time for detail) but once I get rolling, I don’t think the difference will be a deal-breaker. As long as I can keep it close, I’m happy. This coloring style looks so much nicer and professional than the cell-shading in issue one that I’m going to do whatever I can to keep doing it.
I haven’t posted a regular Wednesday blog in awhile because I’ve been busy with the comic and I haven’t had much to say. Almost all my efforts have been going directly into Variables but starting next week, I’m going to start blogging every Wednesday if possible. First off, I’m going to talk about the new color flatting technique I developed using a BPelt Photoshop plug-in and a small Photoshop action I created. It has cut about an hour off of my flatting time, which is huge because my new gradient coloring technique takes over two hours longer to complete. I needed to save some time somewhere on the page and this seems to be the way to do it. Anyway, more on that next week.
That’s I gots for today. Take a peek at the page to your right and then be sure to check back on Monday for the fully colored and lettered page.
