I know the past couple of weeks have been spotty with updates on SelfCentEnt. I had computer issues (a failed SSD that required a full format and reinstall of the operating system) and then a passing in the family that required an unexpected trip out of town, which caused much of the work on the comic and podcast to cease for nearly two weeks. After struggling to maintain a difficult update schedule in the comic and podcast, I thought it was time to update listeners and readers on our summer plans.
The Comic:
Aurorae is going to update sporadically over the next month as I wrap up the first chapter and then will go on hiatus through the rest of the summer and into early fall. Why is this happening? Sheer necessity to maintain my sanity, to be honest. I’m working full-time, travelling to California for my podcast co-host’s wedding, and then hosting my own wedding two weeks later in early August. There simply isn’t time in the day to do all that is required of me through the summer.
And then I leave for a two week trip to Europe in mid-September. By the time October rolls around, I hope to have several pages of chapter two complete, at which time I will be able to start rolling out regular updates through most of the winter months.
The Podcast:
The Counter Culture Comic Podcast should remain (mostly) consistent throughout the summer. Nick and I are working on pre-recording a few special episodes to cover our respective weddings and we should record regularly the rest of the time. In September, there are likely to be missing weeks, as there is no way in hell that I’m recording a podcast from Europe (and I believe Nick may be planning a trip as well). As we know more about the podcast schedule, we’ll be sure to mention it in the podcast itself.
Also, just 24 pages into Aurorae, I’m considering a ret-con of the existing pages. I’ve long thought that my comics were missing a little *something* and after fighting the urge for several years, there’s a good chance I’m going to cave and insert narration into the main storyline… With a twist. None of the on-page characters will be narrating the story. In fact, it’s not even a narration. It’s a conversation between two people that sometimes align with what’s happening on-page but often diverges into its own theme along the way. Stay tuned as I refine the concept and add more elements to the script. I will make an announcement when the pages have been altered (if they are altered at all).
