A week or so ago, I realized that I hadn’t read Understanding Comics in almost 20 years, just shortly after it released. To remedy this disaster and to reacquaint myself with the musings of Scott McCloud, I ordered a copy of the book and a copy of Reinventing Comics, a follow-up book by the same author. I was hoping to spend some time this weekend relaxing and casually pouring over these books but it looks like the USPS is going to thwart this plan by delivering the package on Saturday, the day after I leave. Then again, it’s the USPS. Their tracking information is, shall we say… primitive. For all the information they give, the package could be somewhere in the Yukon, navigating the tundra via pack mule. Time will tell, I suppose. In any case, I’m interested to read the book again and see how it holds up compared to my 15 year old imaginings of it.
As for the book, I managed to take last night and get slightly ahead on this week’s short story page, penciling and inking the page. I could have actually finished coloring it as well but a sudden wave of laziness swept over my apartment, forcing me to watch several episodes of Farscape while laying on the bed. The coloring was pushed back to tonight. On the upside, my actually *getting ahead* on something means that I will be able to spend the entire weekend finishing up the pencils on the first two pages and cover of the main book in preparation for a late January/early February launch.
