Episode 15: The Goon and The Killer

Nick Hemsing
August 19, 2013

A thematic episode with a subliminal message about David Fincher In this week’s comic book podcast, we’re back to the normal routine with no more weddings planned. Game faces are back on and we’re tackling The Goon. Eric Powell’s decade-spanning series that chronicles the the exploits of, well, The Goon and just a complete mess of characters that address the hard hitting issues of the day, such as zombie priests, talking zombies, mad metal scientists and their 50’s robots, undead eating the dead, and just trying to earn an honest living by beating people up for protection money. We go... View Article

Episode 14: Before Watchmen Part 2

Nick Hemsing
August 12, 2013

A week late and some common sense short So, I, Nick, am a few cans short of a six-pack and somehow assumed that comic book podcasts posted themselves.  In fact, these blurbs even write themselves.  At least this week’s podcast is not about how much of an idiot I am.  Well, it could be, if you think what I say is particularly useless.  However, we do try to talk about the rest of the Before Watchmen series.  In fact, I’m pretty sure that’s what we did.  I also can’t say Rorschach to save my pathetic life.  This week you can... San Diego Comic Con – I Hardly Knew Ye

Brock Beauchamp
July 31, 2013

I was able to attend the latest San Diego Comic Con for a single day (Friday) before moving on to attend my podcast co-host’s wedding north of Los Angeles on Saturday. Having never attended SDCC for less than three days in the past, I was startled by just how little of the convention one can cover in a single day. I walked the show floor a couple of times, was able to attend one (just one… sigh) panel on coloring with Copic markers, and then tried to catch some of the cosplay/party sights to be found in San Diego’s Gaslamp... Episode 13: Before Watchmen Part 1

July 23, 2013

Breaking Down the Prequels to a Mid-80s Classic Before Watchmen. Somehow, I think every time someone says it or types it, Alan Moore’s eye twitches a little. This week, we review DC’s own “Phantom Menace” in the first half of our first special series. These books were tackled by different writers and different authors so we wanted to give each series its own look. Some we expected better and were pretty disappointed; others, we expected nothing, but found moments of brilliance. Wedding number one (mine) is down and we have one more to go (Brock’s) in two weeks. We’ll try... View Article

Episode 12: Battlepug and The Private Eye

Nick Hemsing
July 16, 2013

Fake Comics About Dogs, Cool Jackets, and Digital Rantings In this week’s comic book podcast, Brock made up this webcomic called Battlepug, drugged me and made me think I actually read it, then made me talk about it. Conan, Red, er, Black Sonja, some other funny characters, and a giant Pug. No more shrooms for Nick. I was pretty sure the second comic is real, The Private Eye. A creator published, pay-what-you-want digital comic, that is set in the future but reaches back to Bogart for its inspiration. Coming up next we’ve got a couple weeks of a Before Watchmen-fest.... Episode 11: Shade, The Changing Man and Demeter

Nick Hemsing
July 9, 2013

Bizarreness, The Ghost of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, and the Justice League It turns out its much easier to publish a podcast if you actually assemble and upload it.  Nick was not the brightest human being on Sunday.  Anyhoo, this week we put on our Technicolor dreamcoats and took a warped trip with the 90’s reboot of Shade: The Changing Man from DC.  After the LSD wore off, we got in touch with our indy, feminine side with Demeter, a self-published book from Becky Cloonan.
