Episode 87 : The Punisher – Welcome Back, Frank

Nick Hemsing
September 18, 2017

When Brock and Nick say they review indie comics, sometimes that definition gets stretched. Sometimes it is also stretched so far that it is an almost unrecognizable rule. This week’s comic book podcast is less than indie. It is, in fact, very un-indie. It’s The Punisher. Why The Punisher? That’s because it’s Garth Ennis’ Punisher and with it comes a certain flavor and is heavily related to the movie and Netflix depictions. In other news, the Batman movie is still a weird mess that seems like it will eventually congeal into something and The Tick is still on their minds.

DIY printing: 2017 update, still doin’ it my own damned self

Brock Beauchamp
June 6, 2017

Some of you may have read the blog post outlining my initial foray into DIY printing for conventions. If not, you can find it here for reference. Now that I’ve been printing at home for five years, I figured it was time for an update. Not only have I learned several new tricks but my trusty Artisan 1430 died late last year and I replaced it with a significant upgrade in the Epson P600. Over the past few months, I’ve run several hundred prints through the new Epson, so I’m now comfortable talking about what it does right (most things),... View Article

October 5, 2016

Hey all, I will be at Fall ComiCon this weekend (formerly known as FallCon), peddling my wares to geek nation. As usual, I will be offering prints, original art, and my comic book, Duplicity. Due to this being a one-day convention, if you’d like to purchase an original sketch from me, please come by my table as early as possible so I can make sure you get on the docket before it fills for the day. As always, I’m looking forward to another fantastic MCBA event and hope to see you all there on Saturday! Once again, Fall ComiCon will... View Article

What image format should I use for my comic?

Brock Beauchamp
May 20, 2016

Disclaimer: I’m a senior front-end web developer by trade (and have been for over a decade), so I have a pretty solid grasp on the pros/cons of this argument. This is something I discuss with teammates ad nauseum. I’ve been in heated discussions with development teams of 30+ people over image formatting issues on multi-million dollar projects. I’m not trying to blow my own horn, merely explaining my history a bit so your first response isn’t “Who is this schmuck and why should I listen to him?” I certainly don’t know everything about the web – far from it – but my foundation... Time Dick is available digitally for only 99 cents!

Brock Beauchamp
February 22, 2016

Buy Time Dick on Comixology “Jump into Time Dick with Vivian Gittes and her one true love; the dark, seedy, and gorgeous America of the 1930s. Like so many before her, Gittes is looking for the final big score so she can wash her hands of the dirty work and kick back in the life of, if not luxury, at least glamour and style. All she needs is one. Last. Job.” The first chapter of my sci-fi homage to film noir is available on Comixology for only 99 cents! This is the project I’ve wanted to do for a long... View Article

January 20, 2016

It took some time but… Yay! Duplicity has been published to Comixology and is now available for sale! It seems like an age ago when I first submitted this book to the Comixology marketplace (mid-September, actually) but the wait is finally over! Duplicity is an experimental self-contained short story that clocks in at 42 pages for only $1.99. It’s the story of two men on death row, sharing their final day on earth together… With a twist. I don’t want to give it away if you haven’t already seen the book. So, take a look at Duplicity for less than two bucks! Buy... View Article

Time Dick progress

Brock Beauchamp
January 4, 2016

I’m 60% complete with the first chapter of Time Dick! The first chapter has been a learning experience. I’ve tried to mix up my style quite a bit, change my inking tool(s), and adapt my coloring style to a new format. It has been a… challenge. But overall, I’m quite happy with the results and remain on track to have the first chapter done before the end of January. After that point, I immediately flip over to chapter two and once that is complete, the first chapter will be available for purchase (only $.99!) on Comixology. So keep checking back... View Article

Introducing Time Dick!

Brock Beauchamp
October 19, 2015

I’m super-excited to announce my next project: Time Dick. (stop laughing) I cannot state how much I love the absurd name of this comic. Time Dick, similar to most of my projects, is a science fiction comic book… With a twist. It’s a play on film noir, a beloved film style to which I’ve wanted to pay homage for a long time. I could wax nostalgic about the first time I saw Bacall and Bogart light up the screen in The Big Sleep but I’d prefer to keep this missive under 5,000 words so I’ll merely say “I really like that movie and... October 1, 2015

The autumn wave of midwest comic book conventions are upon us, starting with the MCBA’s Fall ComiCon, hosted on October 10th in the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in St. Paul. Tickets are only $8 for this one-day event so be sure to come by and check out the list of great creators who will be attending! As always, I will be offering commissions at the event but given how the conventions is only one day, it’s likely I will book the entire day drawing relatively early in the morning. If you’re interested in commissioning me for a drawing, let me know ahead of... View Article

Duplicity now available on Amazon Kindle

Brock Beauchamp
September 23, 2015

It has been a long time coming but Duplicity is finally complete and I’ve spent the past several days formatting the book for print and digital sales. Today, I capped off the work with a submission to Amazon, who promptly flipped my submission back to me with an approved status in just three hours. You have no idea both how stressful this is to me and how bloody happy I am to have something “in the can”, though I always found that terminology slightly unnerving… Something an airplane heroin smuggler might say about the location of their illicit goods. While... View Article

MSP Comic Con – May 16-17

Brock Beauchamp
May 12, 2015

Hey all, I will be at MSP Comic Con this weekend (formerly known as SpringCon), peddling my wares to geek nation. If you’ve never been to SpringCon, it’s a must attend event and it’s the finest comic book convention I’ve ever had the pleasure of attending. Run entirely by local volunteers, this convention is all about comic books. Admission is only $12 for the weekend and the MCBA (Midwest Comic Book Association) treats their creators better than any other convention in the world. The convention will be chock-full of local creators (including fellow members of the Twin Cities Comic Collective)... View Article
